About Fullerton...
Incorporated in 1904, Fullerton is Orange County’s third oldest official city, surpassed by only neighboring Anaheim and county seat Santa Ana. The sprawling north Orange County city, located 26 miles from Los Angeles, accurately fits a host of diverse descriptions. It is a premier college town with numerous institutions of higher education, anchored by the presence of Cal State Fullerton. Fullerton’s noted dedication to preserving its past makes it one of Orange County’s most historical places to visit. The rolling Coyote Hills that dominate the city’s northern quadrant complete with a small network of equestrian trails give the city a uniquely pastoral dimension. And the recent transformation of Fullerton’s downtown area into a hip, vibrant gathering spot also makes Fullerton a tremendous city to see and be seen.
The formation of Fullerton can be traced back to its unofficial founding in 1887, when grain merchants George and Edward Amerige purchased the land and named their claim after railroad agent George H. Fullerton. The city earned a reputation in the early part of the 20th century for being a vital center for petroleum and agricultural industries, as well as an important hub for the railroad trade. While the rail system still remains an essential part of Fullerton’s infrastructure, its current character is increasingly defined by the abundance of diversely entertaining options which appeal to many demographics, from college kids to families.
The driving force behind this status is Fullerton’s downtown area, a burgeoning region of style and substance broken out into singular subdivisions. The northern Villa Del Sol section is housed in an expansive historical property featuring a luxurious courtyard surrounded by lush vegetation and several shopping and dining options. The trendy South of Commonwealth (aka SOCO) District features a wealth of intriguing venues that will keep you active well into the night, from longtime popular venues such as Heroes to new favorites like Commonwealth Lounge. All of these sections are bound together by Harbor Boulevard, whose sidewalks feature numerous appealing businesses ranging from antique and boutique stores to hot and happening bars and restaurants.
