Herbs That Make You Happy and Skinny

Everyone wants to be healthy, but sometimes that can seem so difficult and it’s hard to make a start. Whether it’s midnight snacking or that one handful of chips that inevitably turns into two, we all have habits that we want to break. But what if making a start towards a more healthful and happy life was as simple as adding these four awesome herbs to your diet? Well, good news. It is.

Licorice - Craving something sweet? There’s an herb for that. Licorice is one of the best substitutes for more mainstream sweeteners. Next time you are making tea, try sweetening it with extract of licorice instead of sugar. Not only might it save you a few inches on your waistline, but it will keep your teeth cavity free too!

Lemon Thyme – Cooking healthy for a family can be tricky. Kids don’t really want to sacrifice tasty for healthful. So next time your seasoning chicken or fish, add some lemon thyme. It’s full of vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, and adds a flavorful lemon burst to meats. It’s a much better option than teriyaki sauce, but the kids will still eat it!

Green Tea – As we get older, our metabolisms will often slow down. It’s sad, but true. However, picking up some green tea at your local grocery store can help restore your metabolism to all its formal glory. Studies have shown that it can be just the jump-start needed to lose weight. Drink it hot or cold. It’s delicious both ways.

Chamomile – Jobs are stressful. Kids are stressful. Life is stressful. However, while stress is just a part of life, it does not look good on your body. It ages you, it can make you sick, and it can be bad for your blood pressure. One simple solution to curing your body of its tension is chamomile. Good in tea, chamomile can cure sleeplessness, because don’t we all need our beauty sleep?

Even if it’s hard to break bad habits, making new good habits is a great start. You don’t have to get up and run three miles on a Sunday morning or deny yourself something sweet. Just grab one of these four herbs at your grocery store and, for now, call it a day.
